Mr. Montgomery is a Registered Patent Attorney, licensed to practice law in Florida, the District of Columbia, and Michigan. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Montgomery served as Patent Counsel with the Johnson & Johnson law department for more than 13 years. Previously, he was in private practice. Mr. Montgomery has vast experience in all areas of intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on medical devices and other areas related to health care. He counsels innovative companies of all sizes and in all phases of growth, from start-up and venture funding, to publicly traded and Fortune 50 companies. Mr. Montgomery has experience directing patent lawsuits, including settlement negotiations and appeals, conducting due diligence investigations, analyzing and counseling clients through mergers and acquisitions, as well as negotiating and drafting all kinds of agreements relating to intellectual property. He conducts studies of patents and other intellectual property, and writes legal opinions including those regarding infringement and validity. He has an active U.S. and international patent prosecution practice in a variety of technologies, including medical and orthopaedic devices, health and vision care, diagnostics, automotive, aviation, refrigeration, electro-mechanical devices and instrumentation, computer hardware and software, Internet technology, business methods, web applications, and consumer products. Mr. Montgomery holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, and a J.D. from Indiana University. He is also an educator and speaker on topics ranging from patents, intellectual property and innovation, compliance, careful communications, and design excellence. Mr. Montgomery has also served as Co-Chairman of the Corporate Practice committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. |
